Dune: Awakening Lands on PS5 and Xbox September 22 With Single Player
Fifteen months after it launched on PC, Dune: Awakening reaches PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S tomorrow, September 22, 2026. Funcom is not shipping a port of the game as it was in June 2025. Consoles arrive on Update 1.5, the same version PC players received on September 17, and that update happens to be the biggest one the game has had: a full single-player mode, the final chapter of the Book One story, a rebuilt endgame, and a $9.99 Filmic Archive cosmetic pack that lands the same day.
Deluxe and Ultimate edition owners have been on Arrakis since the September 17 head start, so the servers are already populated. Tomorrow is the day for the Standard Edition, for the physical PS5 release, and for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, who get the game included from day one with Play Anywhere progression shared between console and the Windows PC Store, plus Cloud Gaming support.

The solo mode is the real headline
Dune: Awakening was pitched from the start as a survival MMO, and the shared Deep Desert with its weekly wipes and optional PvP is still there for anyone who wants it. What Update 1.5 adds is a separate single-player mode that Funcom describes as the entire game, every storyline, every challenge and every reward, with nobody else on the map. You choose between three difficulty presets or open the settings and tune it yourself: sandstorms on or off, security zones, harvesting and XP multipliers, building piece limits, item durability and base decay are all adjustable. Deep Desert bases in solo play are not wiped on the weekly cycle, and the Coriolis storm does far less damage.
The story side matters just as much. The Great Convention Part III shipped with 1.5 and closes Book One, so for the first time the whole campaign can be played from the opening crash to the final confrontation in one run. Around it, the Landsraad has been rebuilt as a mission-based system, augment stat rolls now follow a bell curve instead of an exponential one so good rolls are far more common, melee got a longer parry window and new ability tiers, and you can create and manage several characters from the main menu. A hotfix, 1.5.3.1, followed on September 19.
Prices, performance and what is missing
Funcom lists the Standard Edition at $49.99, the Deluxe at $69.99 and the Ultimate at $89.99. On Steam the base game is currently half price until October 8, and Game Pass members get 20% off the Deluxe and Ultimate upgrades. We covered the Game Pass side in our September wave 2 roundup, where Dune sits alongside Minecraft Dungeons II and Gears of War: E-Day. Japan gets its own release on October 29.
On PS5, PS5 Pro and Series X you pick between a Performance mode at 60fps with dynamic 4K and a Quality mode at 30fps with dynamic 4K. The Pro and the Series X render at a higher native resolution in both. Controls and the interface were rebuilt for a pad rather than mapped from mouse and keyboard.
The one thing not in the box is crossplay. Funcom has been clear that cross-play between platforms is coming after launch but is not there on September 22, and the console server list it published on September 14 is split into separate PlayStation and Xbox worlds. Beyond that, a free Polar Cap map with an icy biome and new survival mechanics is promised for later this year.
Our take: a survival MMO that spent a year on PC before hitting consoles has usually been patched into something much better than its launch build, and that is the version console players are getting. The solo mode removes the biggest reason people skipped it. If you want to play with friends on the other console, wait for the crossplay date before buying.
