Seventeen months after it first appeared in Steam Early Access, RuneScape: Dragonwilds leaves the label behind tomorrow. On September 15, 2026, Jagex's co-op survival game launches in full on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time, and it is the first time any RuneScape game has shipped on a console. Crossplay works across all of them, and Switch 2 players can use the console's GameChat to keep talking while they explore.

The number that jumped out at us is the one that did not change. Jagex said in a post on Steam earlier this month that the game will stay at $29.99, or £24.99, once 1.0 arrives, after telling Early Access buyers for more than a year that the price would go up at launch. The studio framed it as a thank-you to the players who bought in early and the ones who waited for the story to be finished.

Where to play it, and what it costs you

On PC the game comes to Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Jagex Launcher in Digital Standard and Deluxe Editions. Switch 2 gets a Digital Standard Edition only. Physical Standard and Deluxe Editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, so anyone who wants a box has a short wait.

If you subscribe to something, you may not need to pay at all. Dragonwilds is a day one addition to Xbox Game Pass, which we covered in our Game Pass September wave, and Sony listed it in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog for September, available on the 15th. That is two of the three console platforms where the full game is included with an existing subscription on launch day, which is unusual for a title that has already sold more than a million copies.

What 1.0 actually adds

The 1.0 update is called the Scorned Wilderness, and it is the end of Kuldra's Saga, the storyline that has run through the whole Early Access period. The centrepiece is a raid in the Scorned Wilderness against Kuldra herself, the God-Eater dragon queen, along with Rune armour to craft on the way there. Jagex has also talked about combat changes arriving with the release, though it has not published full patch notes yet, so we will hold the details until they are official.

Everything shipped during Early Access is in the box too. Fellhollow arrived in December with the corrupted guardian dragon Imaru, farming and a rideable Terrorbird. Dowdun Reach in March added a Black Knight fortress, Fishing, skill caps of 99, a Runecrafting overhaul and dedicated servers. Umbral Sands, the largest region so far, brought Infinity Robes, Red Dragonhide, the Fight Caves, the Nightmare Crucible and the Agility skill. That is 13 skills to grind to 99, solo or in a group of four, with the Skill Spells that let you fell trees with a spectral axe or pull a tornado of fish out of a lake.

Our take

We like this launch for the same reasons we liked Valheim going 1.0 last week: a survival game with a real story ending, arriving on consoles and PC at once, at a price that did not creep up. The frozen price is the kind of gesture players remember. What we cannot judge yet is how the console versions run or how Switch 2 handles a co-op world of this size, so treat tomorrow as the start of finding out rather than a verdict. Jagex has also been clear that 1.0 is not the finish line, with a free Luminance update planned for winter and a RuneFest summit on October 3 to lay out 2027, so the game you buy tomorrow should keep growing.
