Telltale's most loved adventure is coming back in a rebuilt form, and the date is now firm: The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches on October 29, 2026. It is not arriving everywhere at once, though. The Switch version has been pushed back, and the question most players care about, what it costs, is still open as we write this.

We pulled the details from the game's Steam page and from Telltale's own statements, because the launch has been a drip of small announcements since the summer and it is easy to lose track of what is confirmed.

What you are actually getting

This is the same five episode story: Bigby Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf turned sheriff of Fabletown, investigating a murder among fairy tale exiles hiding in New York. Nothing about the plot or the choices changes. What Telltale rebuilt is the presentation. The Steam page lists improved lighting, updated animation, refined environments and a more modern cinematic look, plus accessibility work.

The headline addition is Noir Mode, which plays the whole story in black and white and can be toggled at any moment with one tap. Given how much of the original's look came from neon colors against dark alleys, we think this will be a love or hate feature, and the toggle is the smart way to handle that. The package also includes more than an hour of bonus material, described as developer commentary, concept art, interviews and restored content. Coverage of the earlier trailers also mentions five playable deleted scenes, though the Steam page itself only says restored content, so treat the exact number as reported rather than confirmed by the store listing.

On PC the requirements are modest. The minimum spec asks for Windows 10, 8 GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 470 class card for low settings at 1080p and 30 frames per second. The recommended spec moves to a GTX 1050 Ti or Radeon RX 6400 for high settings at 1080p and 60. Audio is in English, with French, German and Latin American Spanish text.

The Switch delay and the missing price

On October 16 Telltale said on X that the Switch version "needs a little more time and will launch later." No new date was given, and the statement does not say whether the Switch 2 version is affected the same way. Everything else keeps the October 29 date. If you were planning to play on Nintendo hardware, you are waiting with no end date, so the other platforms are the realistic choice for now.

Pricing is the other loose end. Telltale told fans it would share price and discount information on October 20, saying it was working on the back end to do right by original fans. As of our check, the Steam listing shows no price. That wording suggests some kind of owner discount is at least being considered, but nothing is announced, and the remaster is a separate Steam product from the 2013 original, which still sells for $14.99. We will update this piece if the numbers land.

Our take

We would hold off on buying until the price is public, then try the free Steam demo first. A remaster of a game that already aged well lives or dies on small things: whether the new lighting keeps the grimy mood, and whether Noir Mode feels like a real option rather than a filter. The demo lets you judge both in a few minutes.

Our advice by player type is simple. If you have never played it, this is the version to start with, since the sequel is reportedly still due next year and this game sets up every relationship in it. If you own the original and loved it, wait for the owner discount details before paying full price. If you are a Switch player, nothing changes today except that you have no date.

FAQ

When does The Wolf Among Us Remastered come out?

It launches on October 29, 2026 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch version is not part of that date. Telltale said it needs more time and will launch later.

How much does The Wolf Among Us Remastered cost?

Telltale has not published a price in the sources we checked. The studio told fans it would share price and discount details on October 20, and the Steam page had no price listed when we looked. For reference, the 2013 original sells for $14.99 on Steam.

Do I get the remaster free if I own the original?

Nothing official says so. The remaster has its own separate Steam listing, and Telltale has only hinted that it is working on something for longtime owners. Do not buy the original expecting it to unlock the remaster.

Is there a demo of The Wolf Among Us Remastered?

Yes, a free demo is listed on Steam. It is a PC demo, and we have seen no sign of a console demo. If you want to see whether Noir Mode and the new lighting suit you before paying, that is the way to do it.
