We cross-checked Pocket Gamer's September update, the Epic Seven wiki PvE snapshot and epic7db's RTA ranking, then kept the majority view where they disagreed.

How we rank

We rank on how often a hero shows up at SS or S across recent PvE, Hunt, Raid and PvP lists, weighted toward the most recent sources. A hero who is SS in one mode but absent everywhere else lands in B or C. We only list heroes that actually appear in the sources, and we do not rank by rarity or by how hard a unit is to pull.

Tier by tier

S Tier, the meta

  • Perfumer Byblis: Team heal, barriers and CR push; SS in PvE and a top RTA pick
  • Boss Arunka: Tank-down protector that anchors the current PvP meta
  • Hecate: SS in PvE and Arena, strong control mage
  • Frieren: Limited collab ice mage, SS in PvE since her release
  • Salome: Boss-mechanic specialist, SS on every 2026 PvE snapshot
  • Arbiter Vildred: Cleave and cleanup king, better again after the May 2026 buff
  • Empyrean Ilynav: SS in PvP, Hunts and Raids, rare all-rounder
  • Sealed Eye Surin: SS in both PvE boss fights and Arena

A Tier, excellent

  • Ruele of Light: Revive healer still SS in PvP and Raids
  • Tamarinne: Best sustain soul weaver for long PvE content
  • Death Dealer Ray: Healer with debuffs, SS in Hunts and S in PvP
  • Genesis Ras: SS PvE knight, solid S in PvP drafts
  • New Moon Luna: SS PvP pick with strong Hunt use
  • Swift Flagbearer Sigret: SS in Arena and PvE wave clear
  • Navy Captain Landy: SS in Hunts and Raids, farm-friendly damage
  • Angelic Montmorancy: Premier PvE healer, cheap to build

B Tier, solid

  • Iseria: Utility ranger, SS in Hunts, S in general PvE
  • Ken: Boss-fight bruiser, SS in Abyss and Raids
  • Bystander Hwayoung: Arena SS burst damage, narrower elsewhere
  • Judge Kise: Arena SS and Guild War staple, S in PvE
  • Celine: Arena and Guild War SS, PvE only average
  • Belian: PvP S tier disruptor, weak in PvE
  • Lisette: New light soul weaver with Time Reversal, PvP rising

C Tier, situational

  • Lone Wolf Peira: PvP counter pick, mostly niche now
  • Harsetti: PvP burst mage, drops off outside RTA
  • Ambitious Tywin: PvP S tier support, little PvE value
  • Seaside Bellona: PvE S wave clear, no longer top DPS
  • Straze: Guild War cleaver, outpaced in current drafts

D Tier, skip

  • Crimson Armin: Old PvP tank, niche pick only
  • Albedo: Niche PvP knight, outclassed in 2026
  • Archdemon's Shadow: Niche control, rarely drafted now
  • Aria: Situational PvP mage, low priority

Who is the best hero in Epic Seven right now?

Perfumer Byblis is the safest answer for September 2026. She is SS in PvE lists and a high pick in RTA, which almost no other hero manages. Boss Arunka is the top pure PvP pick.

Which heroes should a new player build first?

Start with the free and farmable core: Arbiter Vildred for wave clear, Angelic Montmorancy or Tamarinne for sustain, and Sigret or Iseria for Hunts. They stay useful for months.

Does this list cover PvP or PvE?

Both. We merged PvE, Hunt, Raid and PvP rankings into one priority list. Heroes that only shine in one mode sit lower than their best mode alone would suggest.

Why is a hero I like ranked so low?

Epic Seven balance patches reshuffle the meta every few weeks and gear matters more than rarity. A well-built C tier hero beats a badly geared S tier hero, so use this list as a build order, not a verdict.
