Game Pass Gets Two Day One Games Today: FixForce and Fogpiercer

Mid-July is usually a quiet stretch for subscriptions, so we did not expect today to bring a double drop. Two games landed on Game Pass day one this July 17, and they could not be more different from each other. One is a chaotic co-op platformer about fixing broken machines, the other is a solo deckbuilder about driving an armored train through bandit country.

FixForce turns odd jobs into co-op chaos

FixForce comes from Surgent Studios, and the premise is charming: humans are long gone, but you are a robot who still has a job to do. You and up to five friends ride a utility van to a worksite, find broken machines, hunt down replacement parts, and build bridges and ramps out of junk with your drill-wrench arm to reach them. Fall in water or from too high and your head pops off, leaving your teammates to scoop it up while you scootch around helplessly.

The game spent four months in Steam Early Access before this full release, so it arrives with player feedback already baked in. It is on Xbox Series X|S, PC and cloud, across Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass.

Fogpiercer makes your train your deck

Fogpiercer, from Mad Cookies Studio, is the more experimental of the two. It is a roguelike deckbuilder where every locomotive, car and driver you bolt onto your train adds cards to your deck. Battles are turn-based on a grid, with your train rolling through the middle of the battlefield, and the fun comes from shoving bandits into hazards, off cliffs, or straight under your own wheels. There are over 170 cards, branching routes through a fog-covered world, and permanent unlocks between runs.

One caveat: Fogpiercer is launching into early access, so expect it to grow and change. It is PC only, on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Our take

Neither of these is a blockbuster, and that is fine. FixForce looks like the better pick if you have a group that enjoyed chaotic co-op games, while Fogpiercer is for the deckbuilder crowd that has run out of runs elsewhere. Trying both costs nothing extra if you already subscribe, which is exactly what day one drops are for. The next one on the calendar is The Planet Crafter, arriving July 21.
