Garden Tower Defense Unit Tier List (October 2026)

This Garden Tower Defense unit tier list ranks the plants and machines that decide a run, from the Golem and Bloodvine builds that clear Insane to the starter seeds you will replace by wave ten.

We rank by what a unit does for a full team in the current version, so cheap support like Money Tree sits above flashy towers that never get placed.

Bronze, Silver and Gold variants are folded into their base unit. If the base tower is good, its upgraded skins are simply better versions of the same pick.

How we rank

We weigh sustained damage per second against cost, range and how early a unit can be placed, using Classic and Survival on the higher difficulties as the benchmark. Area damage and status effects like burn, stun and slow count for more than single target numbers because late waves come in crowds. Economy and support units are ranked by how much they speed up the rest of the board. Where our two sources disagree, we follow the most recent September 2026 rankings.

Tier by tier

S Tier, the meta

  • Golem: Highest DPS and one of the largest ranges in the game
  • Venus Flytrap: Huge damage that slots into almost any team
  • Bloodvine: Insane damage with excellent range, a late game core
  • Big Mushroom: Powerful area damage that shreds crowds
  • Rafflesia: Top area damage, Silver and Gold skins are even better
  • Electric Beetroot: Chain lightning that punishes packed waves
  • Toxibud: Poison spread that melts groups over time
  • Beehive: Swarm damage across the whole lane
  • Juggercorn: Heavy hitting corn variant for boss waves
  • Petalray: Piercing beam that hits everything in a line

A Tier, excellent

  • Lawnmower: Reliable damage and a great mid game anchor
  • Laser Plant: Fastest attack speed in the game with long range
  • Stun Flower: Stuns buy time for the damage towers
  • Doompetal: Strong damage with useful utility
  • Sporefang: Solid area damage, a step below Big Mushroom
  • Atomic Pepper: Explosive burst that clears clumps
  • Corn: Great damage, range and speed for the cost
  • Grapes: Fast multi shot, Glass Blueberries do it better
  • Bubble Plant: Crowd control that keeps waves off your exit
  • Confusion Plant: Turns enemies around, brutal on long paths

B Tier, solid

  • Money Tree: The only real economy unit, place it early
  • Cabbage: Dependable damage, outclassed later
  • Pineapple Cannon: Great range but slow, low damage shots
  • Broccoli: Good speed and damage for the mid game
  • Palm Tree: Long range single target, no crowd damage
  • Lemon Tree: Fine filler that never carries a run

C Tier, situational

  • Potato: Carries the first waves, then falls off fast
  • Ghost Pepper: Burn still hurts, but power crept out of the meta
  • Peas In A Pod: Fast shooter that no longer keeps up late
  • Farmer: Early game only, replace as soon as you can
  • Gnome: Cheap and quick, low ceiling

D Tier, skip

  • Cactus: Starter unit with too little damage
  • Tomato Plant: Cheap, and it shows
  • Onion: Decent range, negligible impact
  • Strawberry: Good range, everything else is weak

Garden Tower Defense tier list FAQ

What is the best unit in Garden Tower Defense?

Golem. It has the highest damage per second in the game and one of the largest ranges, which is why it anchors most Insane difficulty runs. Bloodvine and Venus Flytrap are the usual partners next to it.

Is Money Tree worth a slot in Garden Tower Defense?

Yes, early. It is the only unit that generates cash, so placing one or two in the first waves pays for your S tier towers sooner. We keep it in B tier only because it deals no damage on its own.

Do Bronze, Silver and Gold variants change the Garden Tower Defense tier list?

Not the order. A Gold Golem is a stronger Golem, not a different unit, so we rank the base tower and treat the metal skins as upgrades. If you can afford the Gold version of an S tier pick, use it.

How often does this Garden Tower Defense tier list change?

After each major update. New units like Budyguards and Sundialstalk arrived in the latest patches, so we re-check the rankings when a patch lands and refresh the page when the top tiers actually move.
