The extraction genre gets its biggest new swing of the summer tonight. Mistfall Hunter, the dark fantasy PvPvE extraction ARPG from Bellring Games and publisher Skystone Games, launches today on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with servers unlocking at 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM Eastern, or 01:00 UTC on July 30 if you count in world time. Xbox players get the friendliest deal of all: it is included with Game Pass from day one, on console and on PC, with Play Anywhere support.

We have been keeping an eye on this one since its open beta drew close to 430,000 players across platforms in June. That is a serious turnout for a new IP from a smaller studio, and it explains why the launch is landing with more anticipation than the usual free week experiment.

Souls-like combat meets loot, fight, extract

The pitch is simple to describe and hard to pull off: take the tension of an extraction shooter, swap the guns for third-person melee combat with clear souls-like DNA, and wrap it in a dark fantasy world being eaten by a corrupting fog called the Gyldenmist. You drop in solo or in squads of up to three, scavenge gear, fight both corrupted creatures and other player squads, then hunt down a Returner Woodling to earn your way out. Die before you extract and your loot stays behind, which is where the genre gets its teeth.

Six classes are playable at launch: the Withered Knight, Seer, Shadowstrix, Sorcerer, Blackarrow and Mercenary. Each one carries two distinct weapon stances you can switch between mid-fight, plus its own talent tree, so the build variety runs deeper than the class count suggests. The combat leans on combos and free-aim targeting rather than pure stat checks, and in the beta it was the feel of that moment-to-moment fighting, more than the loot loop, that won people over.

What it costs and where to play

Mistfall Hunter is a premium release, not free-to-play. The Standard Edition costs 24.99 dollars and includes the full game, all classes, all maps and the seasonal content. A Deluxe Edition at 39.99 dollars adds cosmetics and 2,500 Fate Coins, and you can upgrade from Standard later for 15 dollars if you change your mind. Every platform gets a 10 percent launch discount that runs through August 12, and the developers have confirmed the same unlock moment worldwide, so nobody starts the gear race early.

The smart play for the curious is obvious: if you have Game Pass, it costs you nothing to find out whether the Gyldenmist is your kind of misery. For everyone else, 24.99 dollars is a fair ask for an extraction game that arrives with this much momentum, though genre history says the real test is not tonight's launch but whether the servers, the cheaters and the balance patches hold up a month from now. We will be watching how it plays once the beta goodwill meets live-service reality.
