Star Wars games usually mean lightsabers, blasters and reflexes. Today we get something rarer: a proper turn based tactics game wearing the Star Wars license, and it is out right now. Star Wars Zero Company launched worldwide on August 27 on PC through the EA App and Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games.

It is also a notable moment for the publisher. This is the first big new release to ship since EA completed its buyout and went private in early August, so plenty of people will be watching how a 49.99 dollar single player strategy game performs under the new ownership.

Squads, scoundrels, and the Infinite Coil

Zero Company is set in the twilight of the Clone Wars, and you play Hawks, a former Galactic Republic officer who now leads an unconventional outfit of professionals for hire. The story pits your crew against the Infinite Coil, a Separatist aligned cult led by Kundri Fathom, and EA describes it as a cinematic original tale rather than a sandbox. Your authored companions include a clone trooper, a Mandalorian of the ancient Clan Verminoth and a Jedi Padawan, which is about as Clone Wars as a roster can get.

Around that core, the structure will feel familiar to anyone who loves squad tactics. Between missions you run a base called The Den, where you recruit new operators, upgrade facilities and pick your next destination on a galaxy map spanning more than 150 planets. Recruits can be customized across eight Star Wars species, from scoundrels to astromechs, and the game leans hard on relationships: operatives who fight together build bonds that unlock shared combat synergies, so your favorite pairings genuinely get better over time.

Everything is single player. There is no multiplayer mode, no live service hooks, just a campaign you can restart with different squads and different choices.

The price is the quiet headline

The standard edition costs 49.99 dollars on PC and 59.99 dollars on consoles, with a deluxe edition at 59.99 and 69.99 dollars respectively. A ten dollar discount for PC players is not something we see often from a major licensed release, and at fifty dollars a focused tactics campaign is an easier sell than most full priced launches this month. Gordy Haab, the Grammy winning composer behind several recent Star Wars games, scored the whole thing, and the soundtrack arrives today too via Walt Disney Records.

Our honest read: turn based tactics is a genre that rarely gets budgets like this, and Star Wars has not tried it in a serious way in decades. If the mission design holds up, this could quietly end up one of the most interesting releases of the year. We would wait for player feedback on difficulty and mission variety before grabbing the deluxe edition, but the standard PC price makes this an easy one to try if the trailer speaks to you.
