Type Soul Shikai Tier List (September 2026)

Last checked August 12, 2026

This Type Soul Shikai tier list ranks all 25 Shikai for August 2026, with Benihime, Ink and Theatre leading the pack.

We follow the post rework meta here, which means two Mythics, Snow and Kyoka Suigetsu, sit in B tier: in Type Soul, rarity has never equaled power.

Rankings are for the Shikai stage itself; a few of these flip once the Bankai unlocks, and we flag those in the notes.

How we rank

We ranked Shikai on PvP duel performance first and raid utility second: passive strength, unblockable pressure, combo consistency, and how much of the kit's value is locked behind its Bankai. Type Soul sources disagree a lot after every rework, so where they split we kept the view shared by the two most recent detailed rankings rather than averaging everything blindly.

Tier by tier

S Tier, the meta

  • Benihime: Reworked into the most flexible Shikai, fits Speed and Kendo
  • Ink: Passive cuts enemy damage and disables movesets
  • Theatre: Z and X cannot be parried or blocked
  • Flower: Strong control kit, a top pick all year
  • Shinso: Rare rarity punching far above its weight
  • Creation: An Uncommon that outperforms most Legendaries
  • Weight: Cheap to roll, relentless guard pressure

A Tier, excellent

  • Duality: Lost its stance cooldown resets, keeps three guard breaks
  • Ice: Reliable Legendary with good freeze setups
  • Blood: Solid damage over time plus sustain
  • Judgement: Honest midrange kit with clean combo routes
  • Berserk: Rewards aggression, fades against patient defenders
  • Water: Rare with a surprisingly complete moveset

B Tier, solid

  • Snow: A Mythic that no longer justifies the roll
  • Kyoka Suigetsu: The Bankai is the payoff, the Shikai is average
  • Zangetsu: Getsuga spam works, jumps to S in Bankai
  • Assimilation: Situational grabs, noticeably better once evolved
  • Suzumebachi: Two step kill gimmick, hard to land twice
  • Fire: Basic projectile kit, easily dodged
  • Lightning: Fast but shallow, runs out of ideas

C Tier, situational

  • Ash: Needs setup time most duels will not give
  • Wind: Mobility only, very little kill pressure
  • Poison: Slow chip playstyle that rarely closes games

D Tier, skip

  • Confusion: Unreliable gimmick, most players reroll instantly
  • Shadow: Weak tools in Shikai, slightly better later

Type Soul tier list FAQ

What is the best Shikai in Type Soul right now?

Benihime. Since its rework it offers true combo potential, strong defensive tools and fits both Speed and Kendo builds. Among Legendaries, Ink stands out for a passive that reduces enemy damage and disables moves.

Are Mythic Shikai always better than lower rarities?

No. Snow and Kyoka Suigetsu are both Mythic and both sit in B tier at the Shikai stage, while Creation and Weight are Uncommon and rank S. Rarity affects roll odds, not power.

Which Shikai should a new player keep?

If you roll Creation or Weight, keep them: they are cheap, common and S tier. Theatre is also beginner friendly because its Z and X moves cannot be parried or blocked, forcing opponents to dodge.

Does the ranking change once you unlock Bankai?

Yes, quite a bit. Kyoka Suigetsu, Zangetsu, Water and Berserk all jump to S tier in Bankai rankings, while Theatre drops. We rank the Shikai stage here since that is where most players spend their time.
