Clash Royale Card Tier List (September 2026)

Last checked August 31, 2026

This Clash Royale card tier list ranks 30 of the most played cards for Season 86, right after the August balance patch that touched 38 cards at once.

We combined two recent editorial rankings with live usage data from the top 250 players in the world, so the tiers reflect what actually wins ladder and challenges right now.

A card lower down can still carry a deck built around it; we are rating overall strength in the current meta, not your comfort picks.

How we rank

We ranked cards on how well they perform in the Season 86 meta after the August 3 balance update, cross-checking two recent editorial tier lists against what the top 250 players in the world are actually using. Cards that anchor multiple strong archetypes rank higher than one-deck specialists, and where our sources disagreed we sided with the live usage data, since it is updated daily and hard to argue with.

Tier by tier

S Tier, the meta

  • Skeletons: One elixir of cycle, chip, and defense
  • Barbarian Barrel: The most used card among top players
  • Fireball: The default medium spell in most decks
  • The Log: Still the safest small spell pick
  • Tornado: Groups pushes and activates your King Tower
  • Cannon: Cheap ground defense that anchors cycle decks
  • Hog Rider: Fast win condition that never leaves the meta
  • Knight: Best value mini tank in the game
  • Goblinstein: Monster and doctor duo dominating top ladder
  • Electro Spirit: One elixir stun with absurd value

A Tier, excellent

  • Ice Spirit: Cheap freeze that buys defenses precious seconds
  • Zap: Instant stun, resets Inferno and Sparky
  • Balloon: Devastating whenever it reaches the tower
  • Baby Dragon: Flying splash that fits almost any deck
  • Miner: Flexible chip win condition and tank
  • Arrows: Clean answer to swarms and Firecracker
  • Mortar: Siege pick strengthened by the August changes
  • Bomb Tower: Sturdy building that shuts down ground pushes

B Tier, solid

  • Musketeer: Reliable single target damage, air and ground
  • Poison: Slow burn area control around towers
  • Goblin Barrel: Bait staple that punishes a wasted Log
  • Graveyard: Wins games alone when defended poorly
  • Archer Queen: Solid champion, invisibility still saves pushes
  • Elite Barbarians: Spiking in top ladder usage this month

C Tier, situational

  • Sparky: Huge damage but far too easy to reset
  • Wizard: Outclassed by cheaper splash options
  • X-Bow: Siege niche with a punishing learning curve

D Tier, skip

  • Mega Knight: Mid ladder menace, rare in top play
  • Mirror: Almost never worth the deck slot
  • Clone: Gimmick spell, a dead card most matches

Clash Royale tier list FAQ

What is the best card in Clash Royale right now?

Going by what the top 250 players in the world actually run, Barbarian Barrel and Skeletons are the two most used cards in the Season 86 meta, with Fireball, Tornado, Cannon, and The Log right behind them. Cheap, flexible cards dominate because they fit into so many archetypes.

Did the August 2026 balance patch change the meta?

Yes, a lot. The August 3 update changed 38 cards at once, one of the biggest balance passes in the game's history. Several dominant archetypes were toned down, siege cards like Mortar got room to breathe, and Goblinstein climbed to the top of the usage charts.

Is Mega Knight really D tier?

In top level play, yes. He is barely used by the best players because good opponents punish his high cost and predictable jumps. On mid ladder he still wins plenty of games, so keep using him there if he works for you, but he does not translate upward.

Should I build my deck only from S tier cards?

No. Decks win through synergy, not raw card quality, and most strong decks mix S tier staples with lower tier cards that fill a specific role. Pick a win condition you enjoy, then round it out with the cheap support spells and buildings near the top of this list.
