FiveM Finally Comes to GTA 5 Enhanced on July 21, and Roleplay Servers Get a Huge Upgrade

For once the biggest GTA story of the week is not about GTA 6. Cfx.re, the Rockstar-owned team behind FiveM, has confirmed that FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced enters Early Access on July 21. If you play on a roleplay server, or run one, this is the update the community has been asking about since the Enhanced version of GTA 5 landed on PC.

Quick refresher for anyone outside the roleplay bubble: FiveM is the modification framework that powers thousands of custom GTA 5 multiplayer servers, from serious cop-and-civilian roleplay to chaotic minigame lobbies. Until now it only worked with the older Legacy build of the game, which meant FiveM players were locked out of the Enhanced version's improvements. July 21 finally closes that gap.

The numbers that matter

The headline change is speed. The synchronization rate, meaning how often the game updates what every player sees, jumps from 30 to as many as 120 updates per second. In busy scenes, think a 200 player city center or a highway pursuit, that should translate into smoother movement and fewer of those rubber-banding moments roleplay clips are famous for.

Server owners get the other big win. FXServer has been renamed Cfx Server, and Cfx.re says it can reduce RAM usage by up to 50 percent in certain situations, with lower CPU load too. The team also says it keeps working toward pushing past the current 2,048 player ceiling, with public testing planned later.

Quality of life, at last

The update brings a proper installer with a choice of install folder and drive, real uninstall and repair options, and automatic cleanup of outdated cached server files, which anyone with a bloated FiveM cache folder will appreciate. Developers get newer scripting runtimes, much faster state bag updates, and better profiling tools to hunt down laggy scripts.

Our take

This is an Early Access build, and Cfx.re is presenting it that way, so we would expect some rough edges in the first weeks, and big communities will probably keep their main servers on Legacy until the tools they depend on are fully supported. Still, this is the most significant technical step for GTA roleplay in years, and the timing is smart. With GTA 6 arriving on consoles on November 19 and no PC version announced, FiveM on Enhanced is Rockstar's clearest signal that GTA 5 on PC still has a long life ahead of it.
