Five Nights at Freddy's Joins Fortnitemares 2026 on October 1
Five Nights at Freddy's has been the crossover Fortnite players kept asking for, and kept getting told to wait on. Freddy Fazbear turned up in leaks, in survey rumors, and in a hundred fake concept posts over the years. On Sunday, September 27, Epic ended the guessing with a 40 second trailer on the official Fortnite YouTube channel, titled Five Nights At Freddy's Joins Fortnitemares 2026. The description leaves no room for doubt: "It's almost showtime! The Fazbear Band has taken over Battle Royale. Face the animatronic animal bosses and survive the night… if you can. Fortnitemares begins October 1!"
So the two big facts are locked in. Five Nights at Freddy's is a Fortnitemares collaboration, and Fortnitemares itself starts on Thursday, October 1, which puts the Halloween event on the calendar before October has even properly begun. Here is the trailer, since it does a better job than we can of setting the mood.

Bosses, a pizzeria, and the Fazbear band on stage
The trailer is built like a horror short rather than a cosmetics showcase, which fits the "The Game Is Cursed" tagline Epic has used since the first Fortnitemares teaser on September 23. It opens on a dim restaurant stage where Freddy, Bonnie and Chica stand in the neon spotlights, and it ends with players scrambling to survive as the animatronics come for them. Epic's own wording calls them "animatronic animal bosses," which tells us they will be something you fight on the Island, not just skins in the Shop. That is consistent with how recent Fortnitemares events have worked, with themed bosses guarding loot and dropping Mythic items, though Epic has not yet detailed what these ones drop or where they spawn.
What the footage does show is a Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria on the map, complete with the party room, the stage and the security camera feel of the original game. Freddy, Bonnie and Chica are the clear stars, and Foxy has been spotted in the trailer too, which would complete the 2014 lineup. Several of the outfits look reactive in the footage, with faces cracking open when they take damage. Back blings modeled on Chica's cupcake and on the animatronics themselves also flash by. What Epic has not published is an Item Shop lineup, a price for any of it, or whether any FNAF item can be earned for free through quests. We will not guess on those, so check the Shop on October 1 rather than any number floating around social media.
What this means for the rest of the Override season
Fortnitemares lands in the middle of Chapter 7 Season 4, the gaming-themed Override season that has already brought Sonic, Persona and a very busy Item Shop. The teaser image from September 23 showed the Fortnitemares logo on a cracked, glitching CRT screen, which suggests Epic is folding the Halloween event into the season's retro-gaming look rather than pausing it. Five Nights at Freddy's, a game about surviving the night in front of camera monitors, is about as natural a fit for that theme as a horror license gets.
The timing also fits Epic's current update rhythm. The Override season has shipped its big drops on Thursdays, most recently the v42.20 update that brought Kingdom Hearts to the Island on September 17. October 1 is a Thursday too, so expect the usual early morning downtime and a patch that carries the FNAF content along with whatever else Fortnitemares brings. Epic has not yet confirmed the update number, the downtime window or any other collaborations, and the wider trailer cycle has fans speculating about several other horror properties. Until Epic names them, they stay rumors.
Our take: this is the collaboration Fortnite's younger audience has wanted more than almost any other, and Epic clearly knows it, since FNAF got its own trailer rather than a cameo in a montage. The main open question is how much of it is playable versus purchasable. Bosses on the Island are confirmed by Epic's own words. Everything else, from prices to free rewards, should be clear once the October 1 update notes go up, and we will cover them when they do.
