Santa Monica Studio picked a quiet Monday to put God of War Laufey on the shelf. Pre-orders go live on September 29 at 10 a.m. local time, and the studio used the announcement on the PlayStation Blog to walk through what comes with each edition and, more interestingly, to show off the Serpent Bow, Faye's new ranged weapon, in a couple of short combat clips. The game is still set for February 16, 2027 on PlayStation 5, which is the date the studio locked in at Comic-Con back in July.

One thing to be clear about up front: there is no price in the post. Communications director Grace Orlady lists the bonuses and the Digital Deluxe contents but never puts a number next to either, and the official product page still says to wishlist the game for pre-order details. We would expect the store listings to fill that gap when pre-orders open tomorrow, and we will not guess at it before then.

What each edition includes

The Standard Edition comes in both digital and physical forms, and pre-ordering either before launch gets you the same three things: the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance, and an in-game resource pack. The armor set and the Phranque cosmetic are marked as items you unlock through story progression rather than something waiting in your inventory at the first campfire. If you go physical, the bonus arrives as a download code inside the case, and Sony's small print says you need an internet connection and a PlayStation account to redeem it. Phranque, for anyone who skipped the June reveal, is the glowing cube companion that fights alongside Faye, and the Golden Leaves skin wraps it in golden leaves.

The Digital Deluxe Edition is digital only, as the name suggests, and it is built around a matching set of purple gear called Dark Alchemy: an armor set, a Blade for Faye's sword, Bow Scales for the Serpent Bow and a Catalyst. On top of that you get an in-game resource pack, a digital mini artbook and the official digital soundtrack. The Dark Alchemy items also unlock through story progression, so the Deluxe tier is a cosmetic-and-extras package rather than an early power spike. There is no mention of a physical collector's edition anywhere in the post, and we are not going to assume one exists until Sony says so.

The Serpent Bow and how Faye's gear works

The more substantial part of the update is the first proper look at the Serpent Bow. Santa Monica describes it as an enchanted bow with the shifting form of a serpent that can go from dormant to notched at lightning speed, and the point is that it works at both range and up close. A full press of the aim trigger drops Faye into a precision mode with longer draw distance, where hitting specific points on an enemy can impair its movement or its ability to attack. In that mode she can also charge and stack up to five arrows for a volley, which the studio pairs with Phranque's ability to launch enemies into the air. A half press of the trigger gives a hip-fire stance instead, more mobile and built for firing clusters of arrows at close range and juggling airborne enemies between weapon swaps.

Beyond the two fire modes, the bow supports different arrow types, with rapid fire, explosive and multi-target arrows named so far, plus swappable Scales that change both its look and its specialty through a unique perk. The Dark Alchemy Bow Scales from the Deluxe Edition are one example of that system. The post also lays out Faye's wider build options: armor sets carry perks and stats, the Blade customises her sword, Scales customise the bow, and Catalysts are artifacts that channel the magic of the Everywhen with different effects. It reads like a lighter, faster take on the gear loop from the Norse games, which lines up with the more aerial fighting style we saw in the twenty minute reveal.

Our take is that this is a sensible, unshowy pre-order drop. The bonuses are cosmetics and consumables, the Deluxe tier is a costume set and a soundtrack, and nothing here is being held hostage from the standard game. The missing price is the only real gap, and it will close tomorrow morning. If you were already planning to buy Laufey at launch, the Last Wish set is a free reason to lock it in early. If you were on the fence, the Serpent Bow footage is the thing worth watching, because it is the clearest sign yet that Faye's combat is meant to feel different from Kratos's rather than a reskin of it.
