GTA 6 Limited Edition DualSense Controllers Are Up for Pre-Order Today at $84.99, and They Ship November 19 With the Game

Sony opened pre-orders this morning for the two Grand Theft Auto VI limited edition DualSense controllers, and if history is any guide, they will not sit in stock for long. The window opened at 7 a.m. Pacific, 10 a.m. Eastern in the US, and at 10 a.m. local time in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Both editions cost $84.99, or 84.99 euros and 74.99 pounds, and they ship on November 19, the same day the game itself lands on PS5.

The two pads were first shown during Sony's Gamescom week presentation and detailed on the PlayStation Blog on September 3. What changed today is simple: the "coming soon" tags on playstation.com have flipped to "pre-order now", and the official store says quantities are limited.

Black for the nightlife, white for the daybreak

Sony pitches the two colorways as two moods of Vice City. The White Limited Edition is meant to evoke the city at daybreak, with its white sands and pastel skies. The Black Limited Edition goes for the neon nightlife instead. Both share the same tricks: a shimmering, color-shifting finish that mixes sunset hues with a neon glow, and palm tree silhouettes that are molded into the plastic rather than printed on. The touchpad area carries the Grand Theft Auto VI logo, and the PlayStation Blog stresses that the palm trees add a tactile element you can feel under your fingers.

Under the paint, they are ordinary DualSense controllers. You get the usual haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone and motion sensing, nothing more and nothing less. Sony's post talks up how the haptics and triggers respond to Jason and Lucia's story, but that applies to any DualSense you plug into the game. Nobody should buy one of these expecting a hidden gameplay advantage. The value is entirely cosmetic, and at $84.99 it sits at the usual premium for a limited edition pad.

Where each one is sold, and why that matters

This is the part that will decide who actually gets one. The white edition is the easy one: it is available in limited quantities at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers worldwide, so your usual game store or online retailer should list it. The black edition is the harder catch. It is exclusive to direct.playstation.com in every region where that store operates, and it goes to select retailers only in countries without a PlayStation Direct storefront. Portugal, for example, routes pre-orders through the hardware section of playstation.com. If you want the black one and you live in the US, the UK or most of Western Europe, PlayStation Direct is your only door.

There is one small sweetener for ordering straight from Sony: eligible PlayStation Direct pre-orders get free launch day delivery, which means the controller should be at your door on November 19 rather than a few days after. Given how quickly previous limited edition DualSense runs sold through, we would not wait until the game's launch week to decide.

Our take

We covered the gameplay reveal last month, and the honest read then was that Rockstar's launch machine is running at full power. A color-shifting controller is a small piece of that machine, but it is the first physical GTA 6 merchandise from Sony itself, and the black edition being locked to PlayStation Direct all but guarantees a resale market. If the controller is for you, order it today and be done. If you were hoping for a themed PS5 console to go with it, Sony has not announced one, and we would rather say that plainly than speculate.
