If you pay for the upper tiers of PS Plus, this is the week each month when the subscription has to justify itself, and July's batch is a decent argument. Sony announced the new Game Catalog lineup today, and it is headlined by two big PS5 open-world games: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Rise of the Ronin.

What Extra and Premium members get

Seven games join the catalog this month, all playable at no extra cost on the Extra and Premium tiers:

  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (PS5), Ubisoft's first-person action adventure set in Pandora's Western Frontier, arrives July 21.
  • Rise of the Ronin (PS5), Team Ninja's open-world action RPG set in 19th century Japan, is already available in the US and UK as of today, with Japan following July 16 and other regions July 21.
  • Firefighting Simulator: Ignite (PS5), a co-op firefighting sim for up to four players, arrives July 21.
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind (PS5, PS4), Dying Light (PS4), Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector (PS5) and Snow Bros. Wonderland (PS5) arrive July 28 in the US, UK and Japan, and July 21 in other regions.

Premium members also get two PS2 classics on July 21: Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, the telekinesis shooter that never got a sequel, and Indigo Prophecy, Quantic Dream's paranormal thriller.

The staggered dates are worth reading twice

Sony is splitting availability by region again this month, so check the date for your country before clearing an evening. In the US and UK, Rise of the Ronin is the instant download today, the bulk of the lineup lands July 21, and the last four titles trail in on July 28.

Our take

This is one of the stronger catalog months of 2026 so far. Rise of the Ronin alone is a 40 hour game that still sells for full price often enough, and Citizen Sleeper 2 is one of the best written RPGs of last year. The honest caveats: Avatar is gorgeous but formulaic, and Dying Light arriving here is the original 2015 game, not a new entry, which stings a little given the series news lately. If you subscribed to Extra and let it idle, July is a good month to remember it exists.
