Xbox Kicks Off Its 25th Birthday With a Free Badge, Fan Made Designs and a FanFest Tour Where Tickets Cost Nothing

Xbox turns 25 this November, and Microsoft has started handing out party favors early. The latest anniversary drop went up on Xbox Wire yesterday, and unlike most milestone marketing, almost everything in it is free: a commemorative profile badge, a set of community made gamerpics and themes, curated Game Pass collections that walk through the console's whole history, and the full schedule for a worldwide FanFest tour where tickets cannot be bought at any price.

The badge is the easiest grab. Sign in to your Xbox account on console, PC or the mobile app and it lands on your profile automatically, where it can stay on display through the end of 2026. It is a small thing, but it costs nothing and takes ten seconds, which is more than we can say for most login rewards.

Fan made designs and a Game Pass history tour

The customization items are the more interesting half of the freebie pile, because Microsoft did not make them. The new gamerpics, backgrounds and a dynamic console theme were created by community artists Klobrille and Ben Kenobi, two names longtime Xbox fans will recognize, and they are live now under Settings, Profile, Customize profile on console, or through your profile page in the PC app. Handing the anniversary art direction to fans is a genuinely nice touch rather than a token gesture.

Game Pass subscribers also get curated collections organized by console generation, stretching from the original Xbox era to Series X and S. The lineup leans on the catalog's comfort food, including Fable Anniversary, Fallout 4, Psychonauts 2 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a franchise that is having quite a year after Halo: Campaign Evolved arrived on PS5 day one. If you have ever wanted to walk someone through 25 years of Xbox without leaving your couch, the browsing is now done for you.

The FanFest tour, and how to actually get in

The tour itself hits Cologne on August 26 during gamescom, Tokyo on September 17 during Tokyo Game Show, London on September 26, Mexico City and Sydney on October 17, and Toronto on November 6, with a Seattle event confirmed and detailed later. Tickets are not sold anywhere. Every city runs its own sweepstakes at xbox.com/community/fanfest, so entering costs nothing and scalpers get nothing to scalp. The events orbit the previously revealed 25th Anniversary Collection hardware, a translucent green Series X and matching controller that lean hard on the original console's look.

We will admit the timing is a little funny. This wave of free goodies lands the same week the Series X price hike went live, pushing the console to 799.99 dollars. A badge and some gamerpics do not offset that, and nobody should pretend they do. But taken for what it is, a birthday celebration that asks for zero dollars and gives fans the pen, this is Xbox marketing in its most likeable form.
