007 First Light Passes 4 Million Copies Sold, and the Switch 2 Version Is Playable at Gamescom Next Week
James Bond's return to gaming is aging well. IO Interactive announced on Wednesday that 007 First Light has passed 4 million copies sold since its May 27 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. "4 million copies sold since launch!" the studio wrote on the game's official account, thanking players for coming along on the ride. That puts the milestone at just under three months, which is quick for a brand new take on a licensed character with no Hitman in the title.

How the numbers stack up
The trajectory here is the interesting part. First Light sold 2.7 million copies in its opening week, so roughly a third of its total has come from the slower weeks since, and that kind of tail usually means word of mouth is doing real work. According to sales tracking firm Circana, it currently sits as the second best selling premium game of 2026 in the United States, behind only Resident Evil Requiem, which passed 8 million copies worldwide over the summer.
Part of that staying power is earned. IO has kept the game moving since launch, most visibly with update 1.1.0 and its free TacSim missions, which fixed over 200 issues and added new weapons without charging a cent. For a single player spy game, that is the kind of support that keeps a title on wishlists long after the launch buzz fades.
The Switch 2 version is up next
The 4 million figure does not include Nintendo players yet, because the Switch 2 version is still on the way. IO confirmed the port back at the game's reveal, and next week it becomes tangible: the studio is bringing a playable Switch 2 build to Gamescom 2026 in Hall 9.0, starting when the show floor opens on August 26. A final release date has not been announced, so we would treat any specific day floating around as unconfirmed until IO says it out loud.
Our take: 4 million in three months is a genuinely strong result for a new IP built on a license, and it makes a sequel feel less like a hope and more like a scheduling question. Amazon MGM Studios clearly has plans for Bond across film and games, and First Light just gave those plans a very healthy proof of concept. If the Switch 2 version lands well, this number has plenty of room left to grow.
