Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations Expansion Launches July 7
The wait is short now. Revelations, the first major campaign expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages, launches this Monday, July 7, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We have gone through Bethesda's announcement and the store listings so you know exactly what is coming before you spend anything.
What the expansion adds
Revelations picks up with the Slayer wounded and betrayed, thrown into a merciless purgatory he can only escape by, in Bethesda's words, confronting haunting truths and forging new strength with the help of a mysterious ally. The setup ends with him fighting an abomination of the gods to free his followers.
The headline change is the Chain Spear. Early in the campaign the Slayer's shield breaks, and the new weapon takes its place. It can stab, be thrown, slam down onto groups, slash in wide arcs, and work as a grappling hook that pulls you toward enemies or across gaps. An Orbit ability lets you circle a target while firing.
id Software estimates the campaign at 10 to 12 hours, split roughly 60 percent story and 40 percent endgame content, and says the package is bigger than both Doom Eternal expansions combined. That is a developer claim, so we will judge it once we play, but the structure sounds different too: exploration leans Metroidvania, with deeper puzzles, new demons, and levels that rebuild classic Doom designs with modern materials. Expansion owners also get three extra Ripatorium maps after finishing the story.
Date, platforms and price
The release date is July 7, 2026, on PC via Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox app, plus PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox Play Anywhere support on the Microsoft side. The standalone price is $19.99. If you already own the Premium Edition or the Collectors Bundle, Revelations is included at no additional cost. A Premium Upgrade for base game owners is listed at $34.99, which only makes sense if you also want the rest of that edition's content.
Everyone gets something on the same day: the free Ripatorium 3.0 update rolls out to all Dark Ages players on July 7, with deeper customization and personal presets.
The Game Pass angle
Bethesda's announcement lists Revelations as available on Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass. That matters, because expansions for id's previous games were paid add-ons even for subscribers. If you have an active subscription, check your library on launch day before buying anything.
Our take
At $19.99 for a campaign of this claimed size, Revelations looks like fair value on paper, and swapping the shield for the Chain Spear is a real mechanical shake-up rather than a map pack. Our advice is simple: subscribers should wait and see what appears in their library on Monday, and everyone else can safely wait a few days for impressions of how those 10 to 12 hours actually hold up.
