Fortnite's Hot Bat Summer Is Live With a Bat Cave, a Beach Buggy Batmobile and a New Way to Win
We did not have "Batman in swim trunks" on our July card, yet here we are. Fortnite's big DC summer event went live today, July 16, and Epic is calling the vibe Hot Bat Summer. Gotham's sirens have taken over the island, there is a Bat Cave to land at, and for the first time in a long while Epic is experimenting with how a match of Battle Royale can actually end.

What landed on the island today
The headline additions are a new Bat Cave point of interest, the Batman Beach Buggy for hauling your squad around, and the Batman Grapnel Gun for swinging out of trouble. New quests unlock over time and reward a craftable Batman Sprite, which lets you deploy the Bat Cape in midair and pulls rarer Sprites out of chests more often. Quest rewards also include G'Nort's Summer Tote Back Bling, the Caped Cooler-sader Pickaxe and the Zap-brella Glider, and yes, those names are real.
A new way to win a match
The most interesting change has nothing to do with cosmetics. In some matches, a Rift Anomaly now shakes up the endgame by sending the Battle Bus to a marked location as the Storm closes in. Get at least one teammate onto the bus before it rifts away and you earn a Battle Bus Victory Royale. Multiple teams can escape on the same bus and all of them win. Miss your ride and the match is over, even if you are the last squad standing. That flips the usual final circle logic on its head: instead of hunting the last opponents, everyone is racing the clock to the same extraction point.
Skins and Shiny Hours
The Gotham City Icons set, inspired by the DC swimsuit comic covers, hits the Shop tonight at 8 PM ET: Coastal Catwoman, High Tide Harley, Chlorophyll Ivy and Beach Bod Batman, each with a LEGO version, a Pickaxe and a Back Bling. On July 18, two Shiny Hours windows (2 PM to 4 PM ET and 9 PM to 11 PM ET) start everyone with a Grapnel Gun and a Self-Revive Device while boosting rare Sprite variants.
Our take
The skins will get the headlines, but the Battle Bus Victory Royale is the part worth watching. Shared wins and a hard extraction deadline are a real rule change in a game that has ended the same way for nine years, and if players like it we would not be surprised to see it stick around past the summer. The event itself is free to play through; only the swimsuits cost money.

What is the Battle Bus Victory Royale in Fortnite?
In some Battle Royale matches, a Rift Anomaly now sends the Battle Bus to a marked spot late in the game. Get at least one teammate on board before it rifts away and your squad earns a Battle Bus Victory Royale. Shiny Hours run on July 18, 2026 from 2 PM to 4 PM ET and again from 9 PM to 11 PM ET. Everyone starts with a Batman Grapnel Gun and a Self-Revive Device, Batman Sprite and Beach Buggy spawns go up, and Gold, Gummy, Galaxy and Holofoil Sprite variants appear more often.
