We have seen game launches take over billboards, bus stops and whole subway stations, but an NBA team renaming itself for a night is a first. On October 2 the Miami Heat and Rockstar Games announced A Night in Vice City. On Wednesday, November 18, the Heat host the Milwaukee Bucks at Kaseya Center and take the court as Vice City, the fictional Miami of Grand Theft Auto VI. The timing is the whole point: the game launches the next morning, November 19, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a date Rockstar has held firm since it was confirmed back in June.

Tip-off is 7 PM Eastern. ESPN carries the game nationally and Local 10 has it in South Florida, so this is not a quiet in-arena promotion. The Heat describe it as a first of its kind sports crossover, and for once the phrase seems fair.

What actually happens on November 18

The Heat's own page spells out three things. First, a special court: one piece of hardwood built for Vice City, used for this single game and then retired. Second, a uniform that has never previously been worn. The team calls it a completely reimagined look for the night and is holding the reveal back, with a sign up for the uniform drop in the meantime. Third, Vice City themed game programming and live elements inside the arena, with special activities starting as early as the Heat's home opener and building up to the November 18 activations. The press release promises that a full guide will be posted and updated at the official A Night in Vice City page as pieces are announced over the next few weeks.

There is merchandise already. A Court Culture Vice City collection went on sale October 2 at Miami Heat Store locations and online, with oversized tees at $55 and a crop top at $45. Tickets for the game go through the Heat's regular ticketing, and we would expect the night to sell quickly. Longtime fans will also remember that the Heat wore Vice themed alternate uniforms for several seasons, so the team is leaning on its own history here as much as Rockstar's.

The sign on the roof, and what it reportedly cost

The partnership did not start on October 2. The Heat's release notes that the Welcome to Vice City signage on the Kaseya Center roof was lit on October 1 as the opening act. The pink and white letters were lifted onto the waterfront roof by helicopter on September 22, according to local reporting, which also puts Rockstar's payment to Miami-Dade County, which owns the arena, at $975,000 under a marketing agreement. That figure drew questions from some county officials about public property promoting a game built around crime, and reports say the sign is contracted to stay up until at least a year after installation or the Heat's final home game of the 2026-27 season, whichever comes later. We have not seen the agreement ourselves, so treat the cost and duration as reported rather than confirmed by Rockstar or the Heat.

Our take: this is marketing, and expensive marketing, but it costs players nothing and it is genuinely fun. The useful facts for anyone waiting on the game are unchanged. November 19 is still the date, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are still the platforms, and the best look at what Vice City actually plays like remains the 26 minute Extended Look Rockstar released in August. If the uniform or court reveal turns out to show anything new from the game itself, we will cover it; a jersey on its own is a sports story, not a GTA one.

FAQ

When is A Night in Vice City?

Wednesday, November 18, 2026, when the Miami Heat host the Milwaukee Bucks at Kaseya Center. Tip-off is 7 PM Eastern. The game airs nationally on ESPN and on Local 10 in South Florida. Grand Theft Auto VI launches the next day, November 19, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What is different about the game that night?

The Heat play as Vice City on a special court built for that single game, wear a uniform that has never been worn before, and the arena runs Vice City themed programming and live elements. The Heat say more details, including a guide to the game night activations, will be added over the coming weeks on their official A Night in Vice City page.

Does this change anything about GTA 6 itself?

No. The release date is still November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar has not announced any new editions, content or platforms alongside this event. It is a launch eve celebration, not a game update.
