Mark the calendar for real this time. Halo: Campaign Evolved, the full remake of the original Halo campaign, launches on July 28, 2026 at 8am PDT on Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5. If you pre-order the Premium or Collector's Edition, early access starts on July 23. The date was confirmed by Xbox and Halo Studios at the June showcase, so this is locked, not a rumor.

What Campaign Evolved actually is

This is the 2001 campaign rebuilt from the ground up, not a texture pass. Halo Studios is promising modern visuals, reworked cinematics, new motion capture and fresh voice dialog, plus a remastered soundtrack. The mission count goes from ten to thirteen thanks to Operation: METEORITE, three new prequel missions that put Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson together before the events of the original story. On top of that you get nine extra weapons pulled from across the series, hijackable vehicles including the Wraith, and a Campaign Remix mode that randomizes enemies, weapons and Skulls for replay value.

Co-op is the headline feature for us. Up to four players online with crossplay and cross-progression, and 2-player split-screen on consoles. There is no PvP multiplayer, and honestly we think that is the right call. This is a campaign product, and it is priced like one at 49.99 dollars for the Standard Edition.

The PlayStation part is the real story

Let that sink in: Master Chief's first adventure, playable on a PS5, day one, same date as Xbox. Halo was the reason many of us bought an Xbox in the first place, and now the series' most iconic campaign ships on Sony hardware with full crossplay. It follows the broader push of Xbox titles onto other platforms, but Halo crossing over still feels like a line being crossed that we did not expect ten years ago.

Game Pass is covered too. The game hits Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one, plus cloud gaming, so subscribers on Xbox and PC do not need to spend anything extra.

Our take

We are cautiously positive. The 49.99 price is fair for a remake with three new missions, and the co-op plus Remix combo gives it legs beyond one nostalgia run. The open question is feel: the original's pacing and weapon balance are sacred to a lot of players, and refined gameplay can cut both ways. We will judge that when it is in our hands. For now, July 28 is confirmed, PS5 is real, and the pre-order editions are live if the early access window matters to you.
