Nintendo's Customer Appreciation Sale Takes 30% Off Dozens of Switch Games From September 12 to 26, and Nintendo Says Tariff Refunds Helped Pay for It

Nintendo does not run many storewide sales, and it almost never explains where the money comes from. This one is different on both counts. Nintendo of America has announced a Customer Appreciation Sale that it calls one of its largest promotions ever, with 30% off dozens of Nintendo Switch digital games and bundles, plus savings on select physical games, downloadable content, accessories, amiibo and apparel. It runs from September 12 through September 26 on the Nintendo eShop, the Nintendo Store and participating retail locations in the United States.

The unusual part is the second paragraph of Nintendo's own announcement. The company says the sale "is made possible in part by tariff-related refunds," and adds that while it absorbed most tariff-related costs, those refunds helped make a promotion like this possible. If you have been waiting for a reason to fill out a Switch or Switch 2 library, this is the window, and the timing is not an accident either.

What is on sale, where, and when exactly

Nintendo's wording is broad but consistent. The 30% figure applies to dozens of Nintendo Switch digital games and bundles. Physical games, DLC, accessories, amiibo and apparel get "savings" without a stated percentage, and Nintendo says available products and offers may vary by retailer and sales channel. That means the eShop, the online Nintendo Store and retail stores may not carry the same deals, so it is worth checking more than one place before buying a physical copy.

The official banner is more precise than the text. The sale starts on September 12 at 9 PM Pacific and ends on September 26 at 8:59 PM Pacific, which is midnight on the east coast, and there are two full weekends inside the window. Nintendo also frames this as a Nintendo Switch sale you can enjoy "on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 system," which reads as backward compatible Switch titles rather than Switch 2 exclusives. The full game list has not been published yet, so we cannot tell you whether the usual holdouts like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Tears of the Kingdom are in.

The tariff refund story behind the sale

Nintendo raised prices on the original Switch family in the United States in 2025 and pointed to tariffs as one reason, with increases of $30 for the Switch Lite, $40 for the standard model and $50 for the OLED model. Nintendo was also one of more than 1,000 companies that challenged the way certain tariffs were applied, and it received tariff-related refunds after courts ruled against those tariffs. Two customers have since filed a proposed class action arguing that the refunds should flow back to the people who paid the higher prices, and Nintendo's legal response was that buyers received exactly what they bargained and paid for.

Seen in that light, the sale is a way of putting some of that money in front of players without writing cheques, and Nintendo is saying so openly. Whether a two week discount on digital games is a fair trade for a permanent hardware price increase is a matter of opinion. Our view is that it is still a real deal for anyone who was going to buy the games anyway, and a first party 30% cut is rare enough that it is worth planning around. If you picked up a Switch 2 this summer with one of the Choose Your Game bundles, this is a good moment to catch up on the back catalogue, and this week's Nintendo Direct gave plenty of reasons to keep the console busy through the autumn.

The obvious caveat is that nothing here is confirmed until the storefronts flip on Saturday night. Until then, the smart move is to make a wishlist and wait for the 9 PM Pacific switch.
