Palworld Online Is Real: Garena Is Building a Mobile MMO Version of Pocketpair's Hit for 2026
Palworld is getting a second life on phones, and this one is an MMO. Over the weekend, Garena announced Palworld Online, a large-scale multiplayer survival adventure for iOS and Android, developed and published under an official license from Pocketpair. The release window is 2026, though there is no exact date yet, and Garena says testing, pre-registration and region details will come later through official channels.
The pitch is Palworld's core loop rebuilt around other people. You still explore a seamless open world, catch and raise Pals, and push into new regions, but the game is designed from the start for parties, shared bases and a persistent online world rather than the small private servers of the original. Garena is also writing an original story exclusive to Palworld Online, so this is not a straight port of Pocketpair's game with a touchscreen bolted on.
What Garena is actually promising
The announcement leans hard on the social side. Players can meet others from around the world, form groups, build settlements together and take on PvE encounters as a team, from boss hunts to creature-catching expeditions. PvP is confirmed too, which is a bigger deal than it sounds: fighting other players has always been a fringe activity in Palworld proper, and an MMO structure could finally give it a real home. Base automation returns as well, with Pals deployed to keep your settlement running while you are off exploring.
Because this is a phone game, the interface is being rebuilt around touch, with what Garena describes as a touch-friendly UI and optional one-tap controls. Garena's Terry Zhao says the goal is bringing "the essence of the PC title to mobile" in a way that pushes players to venture out together, while Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe points to Garena's experience in global publishing, localization and live operations as the reason for the partnership. That last part is worth noting: Garena runs some of the biggest live-service mobile games on the planet, and this will clearly be one of those.
A crowded future for Pals
Confusingly, this is not the Palworld mobile game we already knew about. Pocketpair previously signed a separate deal with Krafton for Palworld Mobile, and Palworld Online is its own distinct project, so the franchise now has two licensed mobile adaptations in flight at once. That is what success buys you: Palworld hit version 1.0 in July after two and a half years of early access, then immediately pulled more than 855,000 concurrent players on Steam, its second-best count ever.
Our take: the license makes sense on paper, but everything that matters is still unanswered. Nobody has said the words free-to-play yet, and Garena's live-operations pedigree cuts both ways, because the same machine that keeps games updated for a decade also tends to fill them with monetization. Until we see gameplay and a business model, this is a genuinely interesting announcement wearing a lot of question marks.
