Nintendo has quietly put together one of its easiest family purchases of the holiday season. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort arrives on October 22 as a Switch 2 exclusive, and it is a sequel in spirit to the Wii Sports Resort many of us played on a living room floor years ago. With a week to go, the price, the sports list and a matching console bundle are all confirmed.

What you get for $49.99

The digital edition is priced at $49.99 on Nintendo's store, and it ships with 12 motion-controlled sports: Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Boxing, Golf, Power Cruising, Prop Plane, Skateboarding, Table Tennis, Tennis, Thumb Wrestling and Volleyball. Nintendo says you can create and customize either a Sportsmate or a Mii, and play online or offline. It has not yet said how many people can team up online, which is the one detail we would want before recommending it as a long-distance family game.

The hardware angle matters more than usual. Nintendo points to Joy-Con 2 mouse controls for the exploration style activities such as skateboarding, and tilt controls for flying in Prop Plane. That is a real change from the original Switch version, where everything leaned on motion alone, and it is the clearest reason the game is not coming to the older console. In September, Nintendo also mentioned an offline Island Crown mode on Wuhu Island, which we covered in our Nintendo Direct recap.

For the budget minded, $49.99 is in line with how Nintendo prices its first party party games. It is not cheap for a title built around short sessions, so we would weigh it by how often you actually have people over. If your Switch 2 mostly lives on a couch with one player, this is not an obvious buy.

The bundle, and the price of the console

Nintendo is also selling a Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle on launch day for $529.99. It includes the console, a download code for the digital game and a three month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership. Nintendo's own math says that saves $27.98 compared with buying each item on its own.

The context here is the console price. The standard Switch 2 went up to $499.99 on September 1, so the bundle is effectively the console plus $30 for a game that is listed at $49.99 and a membership trial. If you were on the fence, that is a decent saving. If you already own a Switch 2, the bundle does nothing for you, and you should simply buy the game. We looked at an earlier $499.99 offer in our summer bundles story, and the difference now is that the price is no longer a promotion, it is the baseline.

Our take

We think Sports Resort is aimed squarely at households that want something everybody can pick up in a minute, and in that role it looks like a safe choice. Our reasons: the sports list covers both quick pick-up games and a couple of long ones, the controls are pitched at newcomers, and Nintendo has a long record of making this style of game hold up. What would change our mind is online play. Until Nintendo says how many players can join a session and whether Island Crown works online, this is best treated as a same-room game.

Our practical advice is simple. If you are buying a Switch 2 this autumn for kids or a family, the bundle is the easier path. If you already own one, wait for launch day impressions on online play before you spend $49.99. Either way, the game lands a week before Halloween, so you should have plenty of time to pick a copy up before the end of year rush.

FAQ

When does Nintendo Switch Sports Resort come out?

It launches on October 22, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Digital pre-orders have been open since the announcement, and the game is listed at $49.99 on Nintendo's store.

Can I play Switch Sports Resort on the original Switch?

No. Nintendo lists it as a Switch 2 exclusive, and nothing in its announcement points to an original Switch version. You need a Switch 2 and Joy-Con 2 controllers, which use mouse-style controls in some sports.

Is the Switch 2 Sports Resort bundle worth it?

It costs $529.99 and includes the console, a download code for the game and three months of Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership. Nintendo says that saves $27.98 versus buying the pieces separately, so it only makes sense if you were already buying a Switch 2 and wanted the game.

How many sports are in Switch Sports Resort?

There are 12: Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Boxing, Golf, Power Cruising, Prop Plane, Skateboarding, Table Tennis, Tennis, Thumb Wrestling and Volleyball. Nintendo has also described an offline Island Crown mode on Wuhu Island.
