Roblox turned 20 this month, and rather than a single birthday game the platform is running a tour of its own history. The Hunt: Roblox 20 opened on September 17 and stays up until September 28. The idea is simple and a little sentimental: you start in Year Zero, the founding of Roblox in 2006, and play your way forward one year at a time, with a quest inside a different game standing in for each era. Clear all 20 years and the hub opens Year Infinity, a second set of 20 games that Roblox says represent 2026 and beyond.

The announcement comes from Seb Barrios, Roblox's Senior Vice President of Engineering, on the company newsroom, and the event page on Roblox itself carries the same dates. We have been in and out of the hub over the weekend, and the official listing was showing more than 70,000 people playing at once when we checked, which is a healthy sign for an event that is already three days old.

How the event actually works

Everything starts in the hub, a dedicated experience that holds portals to 20 games from Roblox's past and present. Roblox only names a handful in its announcement: Lumber Tycoon 2 and Jailbreak from the classic side, and Adopt Me! and Grow a Garden from the newer end of the timeline. The rest are visible once you load in, but since the company has not published the full list we will not guess at it here. Each year has a quest that reflects the era it represents, and you progress through them in chronological order, so there is no skipping ahead to the game you already play every day.

The rewards are the reason most players will bother. Roblox describes limited release UGC items collected along the way, plus a leaderboard for anyone who wants to race the rest of the platform through the years. The event page lists them as event quests that unlock rare and exclusive rewards, and Roblox has said nothing about codes or Robux being involved, so this is a play-to-earn track in the honest sense of the phrase. If you are heading into Jailbreak for its year anyway, it is worth redeeming the couple of active promo codes that game still has before you start.

Roblox Plus perks and the Classic theme

Two extras sit alongside the main hunt. The first is a Classic app theme, a toggle on your device that swaps the current Roblox look for the old logo, colors and font. It is available to every player for the length of the event, and it is the kind of small touch that lands harder than it should if you remember the site from the late 2000s.

The second is a bundle for Roblox Plus subscribers. They got into the hub early, from 9 a.m. PT on September 17, with the event page listing that window as running until 2 p.m. Pacific. They can earn up to three additional exclusive items during the event, and they keep the Classic theme, a classic avatar background and a profile frame after September 28, when everyone else's theme switches back. None of this gates the main event, and Roblox is clear that the quests and the standard UGC rewards are open to all.

Roblox has leaned on creators to sell the anniversary, and the quote it chose is from asimo3089 and badcc, the two person team behind Jailbreak, who say the platform "gave a small team like ours room to have a huge impact". That is the real story of the event, honestly. The games in the hub were made by hobbyists who became studios, and walking through them in order is a better history lesson than any montage.

Our advice is not to leave it late. Twenty quests across twenty games is a real time investment, Year Infinity adds another twenty on top, and the whole thing closes on September 28 with no extension announced. If you want the items, start this week. Roblox is also midway through a bigger push, with a browser version and offline modes announced at the Roblox Developers Conference earlier this month, so the anniversary is landing at a moment when the company clearly wants lapsed players back. A free nostalgia tour is a decent way to ask.

The event runs from September 17 to September 28, 2026, according to the Roblox newsroom and the official event page. Roblox has not announced an extension, so treat September 28 as the deadline for quests and rewards.

Which games are in The Hunt: Roblox 20?

The hub has portals to 20 games, one for each year of Roblox history. Roblox names Lumber Tycoon 2, Jailbreak, Adopt Me! and Grow a Garden in its announcement. Completing all 20 years unlocks Year Infinity, which adds 20 more games that Roblox says represent 2026 and beyond.
