Insomniac Games walked into Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this week and gave Wolverine fans the thing they have been waiting for since that first teaser years ago: a proper story trailer. It opens with an enraged Logan face to face with Jean Grey, and by the time it ends we finally understand what kind of Wolverine game this is. It is a rescue mission, a road trip through Logan's worst memories, and a reunion with people he clearly wanted to leave behind.

The date attached to all of it has not moved. Marvel's Wolverine lands on September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5, and pre-orders for the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions are live now.

Team X, Jean Grey, and a world tour of trouble

The setup goes like this. Logan was once part of Nathaniel Essex's Team X, working alongside Sabretooth and Mystique, and the game picks up years after he walked away from the group. He rejoins them for a globe-spanning mission to track down kidnapped mutants, including deep-cut characters like Leech and Nature Girl, which tells us Insomniac is not afraid to dig past the obvious X-Men roster.

Jean Grey is the emotional anchor. She appears throughout the trailer as a Team X ally, shares a genuinely tender moment with Logan, and is voiced by Krizia Bajos opposite Liam McIntyre's Wolverine. On the other side of the ledger, Lady Deathstrike shows up wielding a glowing blade that looks built to cut through adamantium, Omega Red makes an appearance, and the Hand swarm the screen in their trademark red. That is the same ninja clan plastered across the striking new key art, which puts Logan in his classic yellow suit for the first time in this game's marketing. Game director Mike Daly described this Logan as cynical and candid, a man who keeps everyone at arm's length, and the trailer sells that read.

The extras around the launch

The panel came with a stack of side announcements. Composer David Fleming is scoring the game, with a full soundtrack release on August 28 and preview tracks already rolling out on streaming services. A prequel comic written by Insomniac narrative director Walt Williams, with art by Luke Ross, bridges the gap between Logan's Team X days and the game's opening, and it will be readable through Marvel Unlimited. There is even a crossover with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, where Wolverine's Battle Reborn suit arrives free in that game on September 1 while Tokon players can unlock an exclusive suit in Wolverine at launch.

Our take is simple. Insomniac has earned trust with three excellent Marvel games, and this trailer suggests the studio understands that a great Wolverine story is about the people he fails to push away, not just the claws. September 15 suddenly feels very close.
