Tokyo Game Show opened its 30th anniversary edition on September 17 with Xbox getting the first big broadcast slot of the week, a roughly 50 minute show built almost entirely around Japanese and Asian studios. There was no hardware, no big Western exclusive, and no attempt to compete with the summer showcase. Instead we got a stack of dated releases for the next six months, one surprise shadow drop, and a closing segment from Hideo Kojima that turned into the story of the day.

If you only want the headline facts: Persona 4 Revival is dated for February 18, 2027 and lands on Game Pass day one, Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember follows on March 4, 2027, Shape of Dreams is available right now on Xbox Series X|S with Game Pass, and Bill Skarsgard is the lead actor of Physint. Everything below comes from Xbox's own recap and its separate Physint casting post.

The dated releases, from this month to next spring

The nearest one is already here. Shape of Dreams, a roguelite with crossplay, released on Xbox Series X|S during the show and is on Game Pass from day one. Xbox also reminded everyone that Minecraft Dungeons II arrives on Game Pass on September 29, which we covered in our Game Pass September wave 2 rundown.

October belongs to two big names. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 got a new campaign trailer that sets the war on the Korean Peninsula and confirms the October 23 launch, with campaign early access opening October 16 for anyone who pre-orders the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition. Then Once Human gets its free Isles of Abyss expansion on October 22, adding ship building, ocean survival and deep sea exploration to the game. If you play it, our Once Human codes page currently has a full list of working redeem codes, several of them added this week.

November brings two smaller titles worth noting. Edge of Memories, an action JRPG with Japanese voice acting, launches November 5 on Xbox Series X|S. Hope in the City, from the Canadian studio Lofty Sky Games, follows on November 10 on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC with Play Anywhere support, and it is a narrative mystery where you play an artist turning sketches into evidence. Fallout 76 also got an animated trailer for The Slasher, the update that went live earlier this week.

Then comes 2027. Persona 4 Revival, Atlus's full remake, is set for February 18, 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and cloud, included with Game Pass on day one and supporting Play Anywhere. The new trailer introduced Naoto Shirogane, the detective of the Investigation Team. Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember launches March 4, 2027 on the same three platforms, and there is an alpha demo you can play through September 30 that carries rewards into the full game.

The undated reveals and the Kojima segment

The world premiere of the show was Faraday Blues from Serenity Forge, a surreal science fiction adventure pitched as a visual novel and strategy card game hybrid with 64 endings, about a daughter searching for parents who do not know she exists. It is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and cloud with Play Anywhere. Raji: Kaliyuga, the sequel to the Indian mythology action game, is switching from the original's isometric view to full third person action adventure and will be on Game Pass at launch. Bloomwalker showed its Pocket Dimension housing and crafting system, and SEGA confirmed Japan as one of the playable locations in Crazy Taxi: World Tour. Rounding out the list were Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement from Koji Igarashi's ArtPlay for 2027, the anime adaptation GACHIAKUTA: BREAKOUT, the Chinese mythology action RPG Genigods: Nezha, and Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom and the Guide of Memories, which is up for wishlisting now.

Then the "one more thing". Hideo Kojima walked out to confirm that Bill Skarsgard, the Swedish actor best known for playing Pennywise, is the lead of Physint. Kojima shared a new poster featuring Skarsgard and Charlee Fraser, photographed by Kojima himself, and said that costume fittings, scans and camera tests conducted with the two actors earlier this year gave him "tremendous confidence in the direction of the project". The rest of the announced cast, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe, is unchanged, and Kojima promised more casting news later. He also showed behind the scenes performance capture footage of Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer for OD - KNOCK, the horror project made with Jordan Peele. If you missed why an Xbox stage is where this happened, we wrote up how Xbox picked up Physint after PlayStation dropped it last week.

Our take

This was a well judged show for the audience it was aimed at. Xbox has struggled in Japan for two decades, and putting Persona, Wo Long, Atelier, Bloodstained and a Kojima appearance in one broadcast is exactly the kind of lineup that speaks to that market, while the Game Pass day one commitments give the rest of us something concrete. The honest caveat is that almost everything shown is also headed to PlayStation and PC, so this was less about exclusivity and more about Xbox positioning itself as a comfortable home for Japanese games. Physint and OD still have no release window, no platforms beyond Xbox publishing, and no gameplay, so temper expectations on those. But a dated Persona 4 Revival on Game Pass is the kind of announcement that sells subscriptions, and that is clearly what this broadcast was for.
