GTA 6 Is Getting an Extended Look on August 27, and It Premieres on Netflix First

We did not have "GTA 6 premieres on Netflix" on our list of predictions for this year, but here we are. Rockstar announced today that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, and only afterwards on its own channels. The video hits the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the GTA 6 website at 9 p.m. ET that same evening, a full six hours later.

That makes August 27 the biggest GTA 6 date on the calendar until the game itself arrives. Rockstar has shown exactly two trailers so far, one in December 2023 and one in May 2025, and neither contained a frame of proper gameplay. An "extended look" strongly suggests something longer and meatier than a third trailer, three months before the game locks in its November 19 release date on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

Why Netflix, and what the deal actually means

Neither company has said how long the video is or what it contains, but both are treating it as an event. Netflix VP Brandon Riegg called the anticipation around the game "unprecedented" and described the premiere as a first of its kind partnership. For Netflix, which already hosts GTA: The Trilogy on its games service, getting the most anticipated video game reveal in years as a temporary exclusive is a statement about where it wants to sit in gaming.

For the rest of us, the practical version is simple: if you have Netflix, you can watch at 3 p.m. ET on August 27. If you do not, you wait until 9 p.m. ET and watch it free on YouTube, and given how GTA 6 news travels, every detail will be public within minutes of the Netflix drop anyway. Nobody needs to subscribe to anything for this. It is a six hour head start, not a paywall.

What an extended look probably means

Rockstar's wording is doing a lot of work here. The company has used trailers, gameplay reveals and story breakdowns before, but "An Extended Look" is new vocabulary, and the six hour broadcast window suggests something closer to a proper presentation than a two minute cut. With the game landing November 19, this is the logical moment to finally show real gameplay, the same way Rockstar did with GTA 5's gameplay video a couple of months before that launch.

Our honest take: the Netflix angle is a curiosity, but the substance is that Rockstar has committed to showing meaningfully more of GTA 6 in three weeks, and that is the first real information beat since May 2025. Meanwhile Rockstar keeps feeding the current game, with GTA Online's first new heist in years landing this summer, which tells us the studio is comfortable enough with GTA 6's date to spend energy elsewhere. Mark the date, and do not believe any "leaked runtime" posts between now and then. Nobody outside Rockstar knows what is in this video yet.
