If you have been wondering whether a game like Stellar Blade can really run on a Switch 2, you can find out for yourself this weekend. SHIFT UP posted on the official Stellar Blade account early today that the Stellar Blade Complete Edition demo is now live on the Nintendo eShop, free, about six weeks before the full game arrives on November 5. The studio paired the news with a new vignette trailer for its Bayonetta collaboration, the four free outfits it first teased during the Nintendo Direct on September 9.

It is a smart move. Stellar Blade sold itself on PS5 with a demo back in 2024, and a lot of Nintendo owners have never touched EVE's mix of parries, perfect dodges and Beta skills. Letting them try the port before pre-ordering, on the actual hardware, answers the question everyone has about a game that started life as a PS5 showcase.

What the demo and the port bring

The demo is free and shows up in the eShop on the console itself. A few people have noted it can take a while to appear on the web version of the store depending on your region, so check on the Switch 2 directly if a search comes up empty. SHIFT UP has not published a breakdown of exactly which part of the game the Switch 2 demo covers, nor whether progress carries into the full release the way the PS5 demo did, so we will not guess. The eShop listing puts the download at a little over 6 GB.

On the technical side, SHIFT UP has been unusually open about how the port works. CTO DongKi Lee explained in an interview last month that the game renders at 30 frames per second, uses DLSS to upscale to 1080p docked, then applies FSR 3.1 frame generation to hit a 60 fps target. In handheld mode it runs at a native 720p. Lee said the team picked a locked 30 fps base specifically to keep input latency even during combat. Frame generation from a 30 fps base is a real compromise, and it is exactly the kind of thing a demo lets you judge with your own eyes and thumbs rather than from a spec sheet.

The full package is the Complete Edition, which bundles everything that has come to the PS5 and PC versions: the NieR:Automata DLC, the GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE DLC, the Stargazer outfit set for EVE, Adam and Lily, and a starting bonus of 2,000 SP EXP and 5,000 Gold. It costs $59.99, or £54.99 and €59.99 in Europe, both digitally and as a standard physical release. A limited SteelBook edition is $69.99. The physical version is one of the more notable parts of the announcement: the whole game ships on a 32 GB cartridge, with no game key card and no mandatory download. Pre-orders unlock the Planet Diving Suit (White Edition), Classic Round Glasses and Ear Armor Earrings for EVE early. If you play SHIFT UP's other game and want to make the most of that bundled crossover, our NIKKE codes page currently lists active rewards.

The Bayonetta outfits are free for everyone

The collaboration adds four couture outfits inspired by PlatinumGames' witch: Bayonetta, Nun, Jeanne and Black Tresses. Three of them were previewed at the September 9 reveal, and the Black Tresses name is new with today's vignette. Crucially, none of this is a Switch 2 exclusive or a paid add-on. All four unlock for free on Switch 2, PS5 and PC from November 6 at 00:00 in Korea and Japan, which works out to November 5 at 07:00 Pacific and 15:00 GMT, so existing owners on other platforms get the same drop on the same day the port launches.

The date math also explains why you will see both November 5 and November 6 floating around. The Nintendo eShop in the Americas lists November 5, the official site says the SteelBook reaches participating retailers on November 6, and the Korea and Japan launch is November 6 at midnight local time. It is one simultaneous worldwide release, just spread across time zones.

Our honest take: the demo is the story here more than the outfits. Frame generation from a 30 fps base is a bold choice for a game built around tight parry windows, and the only reasonable way to decide whether it holds up is to play it. SHIFT UP putting a free slice in your hands six weeks early, when it could have waited for launch reviews, is the kind of confidence we like to see. Download it, run a few fights in handheld mode, and let the port make its own case.
